Lip Blush Instructions
Congratulations on deciding to have a lip blush procedure and
gifting yourself the perfect lips!
GENERAL PREPARATION
- Arrange your anaesthetics – Complete online form if you are wishing to have products applied
- Avoid consuming alcohol or stimulants (coffee) within 24 hours prior to treatment. This can create bleeding and have an effect on healed results.
- Some medications may cause adverse effects. Please get in touch for further advice regarding any medication you are taking. Doctor approval may be required in some medical circumstances.
- If you take supplements known to thin the blood, such as fish oil, cease taking 1 week prior to treatment. Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen if possible.
- If you are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive please get in touch for further advice.
- If the area you would like treated has existing cosmetic tattoos, please get in touch or send pics prior to booking an appointment.
- FAMILY PLANNING: We’re unable to tattoo during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, please take the 6–8-week touch-up into consideration.
- If you have a favourite lipstick or tint, bring this in with you.
Instructions for Lip Blush Preparation
- Ensure the lip area is not sunburnt, damaged, chapped or too dry.
- Gently exfoliate 1-week prior to treatment. You can make a simple scrub using sugar and coconut oil. This helps to ensure an instantly smooth outcome.
- Avoid glycolic treatments and chemical peels for at least two weeks prior to session and two weeks after. Any skin regenerating (anti-aging and active ingredients) should not be applied to lips during healing process, and you should avoid direct use on the lip tissue once healed as well.
- No lip filler for one month prior and after lip blushing session.
- Although filler and lip blush are an amazing combo together post healing. Lip filler gives you volume, lip blush gives you definition, colour and natural appearing size increase just by defining the border of the lip to the remainder. Whilst filler and lip blush are an ultimate duo, many do find they no longer feel they need filler, as the lip blushing solves the problem.
- Avoid Laser within 2-weeks of your appointment.
- You’ll need to avoid laser on or near the lip area post tattooing. I recommend ensuring any laser treatment courses are completed prior to having Lip Blushing.
- 24 hours before lip blushing procedure it is recommended to take an anti-viral medication to prevent a breakout of cold sores, this is especially important if you have had one in the past, visit local pharmacy or by GP to purchase. Lip blush does not cause cold sores, but injury/trauma to the lip tissue can cause them to break into a cluster of sores. For those who suffer cold sores it is recommended to have a second dose on hand to take on day 3-4 as an additional precaution, but this is optional. Many of us carry the gene, and it can lay dormant within the body.
Aftercare
- Swelling may be expected after treatment. This normally subsides throughout the day, however, may last 3-5 days.
- You can apply a cold compress or ice to the area immediately after treatment, for just a few minutes, and repeat every few hours that day. (Optional)
- Avoid applying ice directly to exposed skin, a clean tissue may be used as a barrier.
- Avoid consuming hot drinks or alcohol for the first few day’s post-treatment.
- Using a clean cotton tip, apply a very thin layer of recommended Aftercare product to the area, regularly, throughout the day.
- Do not apply makeup to the area or touch with fingers until healed (1 week).
- Dryness, flaking, and peeling may be expected within the first few days (day 3 onwards) and is normally completed within a week.
- The colour normally disappears at first, due to the changes in new skin. Colour will show true colour from weeks 4-7. (This varies from person to person)
- If you experience symptoms of cold sores, inflammation, or tenderness at the treated area, notify your Artist and consult a pharmacist immediately.
- Return for a touch up between 6-8 -weeks.
FOR 2 WEEKS POST-TREATMENT EXERCISE
- Avoid cardio workouts and excessive sweating until the healing area starts to scab up (2-5 days). Once scabbing starts, you may resume normal exercising, however, be cautious of exposing the area to sweat.
- Do not touch the healing area with fingers.
- Do not expose or submerge the area in chlorinated pools or salt water.
- Avoid saturating the area in water.
- Avoid hot, steamy showers, steam rooms and saunas until healed.
- Avoid spray tanning the area until healed.
- Avoid consuming alcohol for 48 hours post-treatment, as this can slow the healing process.
- Protect the area from sun exposure and ensure your skin is in good health for 2-weeks prior to treatment.
- Do not pick the flaking skin or scabs.
- Ensure your touch up is booked for 6-8 weeks post treatment.
- Certain chemicals in cleansers and moisturisers will accelerate fading and may discolour the tattoo. Avoid applying these products to any tattooed areas unless directed to do so.
- Expected healing time is 5-9 days.
1 WEEK AFTER TREATMENT
- Where did the colour go?
- During the healing process, the tattooed area will become bright and minor scabbing will develop as new collagen-rich skin forms underneath.
- This new skin temporarily makes the pigment appear faded and dull. Protect and nourish this new skin and the colour will return within a few weeks.
- Now, enjoy perfect lips all day, every day from the moment you wake up!
For some clients it will be perfect after the first procedure, for others it may be too light or become patchy in some areas. Don’t worry – we will perfect the look when you come in for your scheduled touch up appointment in 6-8 weeks time. Please do not be worried if you lose colour, it is normal to lose 50-80% the first time!
Your comfort is our priority! We recommend ordering the below medical-grade Anaesthetic, to ensure you’ll be totally comfortable throughout the entire treatment. With this, you’ll only feel a minor vibration in the area.
We work strictly within legal compliance, so are unable to supply you with medical grade pharmaceuticals however, we’ve made it super easy for you to arrange:
